Recipe Swap 2011 | Introduction

The idea of some sort of organized recipe swap party has been on my mind for a while now, but with my plate already full, it took a New Years resolution for me to get the ball rolling and finally work out all the details.  So, here we go.  Introducing…

WHAT | A taste-testing themed food party held once a month where everyone brings their best recipe that pertains to that theme

WHY | To create an arsenal of go-to recipes for our families, based on personal taste…you know, kind of like going to Costco or Sam’s Saturday morning and trying before you buy, you get to taste it before you make it.

WHO | Anyone who wants to come!

WHERE | Our house, Franklin, North Carolina

WHEN | Keep an eye on the blog for upcoming dates.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS | I will take pictures of each dish that is brought and post the photos/recipes here for easy reference.  Also, be sure to take along some containers to take home leftovers for the rest of the family to try!

DON’T LIVE CLOSE ENOUGH? Catch the recipes & photos here after the party, or host your own party and be sure to let us know how it goes!

Let me know if you have any questions in the comments below.

Leland - January 14, 2011 - 9:02 pm

Do I get to try any of this good stuff or am I banned?

Sarah - January 16, 2011 - 1:48 pm

ok, I am 100% in :)

I filled out the form… just let me know if someone is doing something similar & I can make something different! And just to be clear… we make the recipe and bring it, so everyone can taste it?

Foto Friday and Other Personal Projects

Inspired by others taking on a 52-week photography challenge and ambitions coming with the start of the new year, I’ve decided to take on a few personal projects that I hope to share with you here on the blog.

The first is what I am going to call Foto Friday.  It’s said so often that life goes by too fast; we’re always busy doing something and time gets away from us.  Well, my journalling is non-existent (unless facebook updates count!), I still haven’t filled out the girls’ baby books, and don’t even talk to me about the organization of the last three years of our personal pictures.  Ugh.  That is not OK.  ::enter personal project here::  Every Friday, for the next 52 weeks I hope to post an image that has something to do with our week.  I don’t promise it will be fantastic, but my goal is for it to help me slow down and take the time to capture some of the people and the events and the real life moments that make my heart sing.  At the end of the year I’ll be able to compile the 52 images into a book that will encompass our year, and I can make a copy for me and each of the girls for a keepsake.  Yea!  I’m feeling productive already. :)  I’m going to use the image from the last post for image 1/52 (yes, thankfully we are all feeling better!) and begin with a dedicated post/image next Friday.  Here’s a few pictures from the end of 2010 for this post just for the fun of it.

I’ve got a few more plans in the works, a couple of imagery art projects, and another thing I’m really excited about, Recipe Swap 2011 (I mentioned this a while ago on my personal blog).  More details on that soon.

Oh, and if any of you are on Pinterest, come follow me here.  If not, you’ve totally got to check this site out…it’s my greatest new addiction since facebook.  Ok, that sounds bad, but you gotta check it out.:)

Happy Friday, everyone!

Kimberly Slack - January 8, 2011 - 8:44 am

Jodi,
What an amazing idea ! I think we often forget to get back to what brought us to this profession in the first place…our own children and families ! I cannot promise to be as diligent as you but I love the book idea ! Thanks for sharing :)

Sarah - January 10, 2011 - 7:11 pm

loooooooooooooove the winter photos! Getting some more good ones today??

Jodi - January 12, 2011 - 1:54 pm

Yes, some! We went sledding down the driveway at least. :) Any ice by you guys?

Jodi - January 12, 2011 - 1:55 pm

Kimberly, you totally should, and send me a link if you do! Take care!

shawna [of styleberryBLOG] - January 13, 2011 - 10:34 pm

yea! welcome aboard! beautiful family!!

Happy New Year!

I got to toast with NyQuil this year, but hey, it’s 10% alcohol.  :)

Have you ever played “Would you rather…?”  Typically a game we played when we were younger, usually while trying to make the time pass away, it would go something like this:

“Would you rather bathe in a pool of jello or in a pool of whip cream?”  Mmm, can you imagine it?

Or, how about “Would you rather eat a cockroach with ketchup or a worm covered in chocolate?” Ewwwww.

Ideas would range from hilarious to absurd.

Well, how about this:  ”Would you rather be vomited on by a child, or mop up the vomit from the floor on your hands & knees?”

Or, maybe this: “Would you rather have both of your kids vomiting at the same time, or have them pass the sickness to each other, making the length of time that your household is sick, longer?”

Hmm, tough questions.  You can read between the lines.  Here’s hoping 2011 improves really soon.

Lois VanderWoude - January 5, 2011 - 10:44 pm

So thankful that things are normal again! Oh the joys of being a parent! :-)

Sarah - January 6, 2011 - 4:30 pm

wait, wait, I totally know the answers to these!!

Would MUCH rather be vomited on… so much easier to change clothes than scrub the floor (particularly if you have a lot of carpet!)
And would rather have everyone vomiting at the same time. If they go one at a time, there’s more chance the first one will re-catch the virus!

Boy, this is a fun game! HAHAHAHAHA

Happy New Year, Glad you’re feeling better, and can’t wait to see you tonight! :)

Satu - January 6, 2011 - 9:38 pm

Let’s hope that it is over for the year!

And Sarah I am still cracking up over your comment.

Merry Christmas!

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a delightful 2011!

Lois VanderWoude - December 25, 2010 - 9:39 pm

This is such a great idea. Hope you do this next year too. Will keep them as ornaments for my tree!
