Recipe Swap | Something I Make Every Week

With the theme of “Something I Make Every Week”, we had a fabulous first Recipe Swap!  I know personally I will be keeping ALL of these recipes; everything was SO GOOD (and I’m not just saying that), and most of them are super simple to make, which I definitely like!:)  Thanks to all who came!  It was great to see good friends & awesome to meet new ones too!  In case you missed it, here are the recipes from the evening, and I hope to see you all at the next one, March 1st at 6pm.  The theme is “Appetizers & Desserts” so you can start thinking about it.  I’ll post another facebook event & submission form once we get a little bit closer.  Enjoy!

So, I cheated this week.  I wanted to tell more of a story than one image would allow.  Forgive me?

This week, I had a birthday!  Woot, woot!  I just love when the actual day falls on the weekend.  My wish was to be able to spend the day with my hubby, and thanks to my wonderful mother taking care of the kids, I got exactly what I wanted.  Grandpa flew over in the afternoon and took Olivia on her very first helicopter ride, “just like Umizoomi, Mommy!”  I tried to capture some of her amazement with the whole thing.  She even got to wear her own helmet and talk on the radio.  Pret-ty cool, Grand-pa…maybe even cool enough that I’ll forgive you for standing up my birthday dinner.;)

DAD - January 23, 2011 - 8:51 am

WOW! That looks like fun!!!
Lets do it again!!!!

Nicole - January 30, 2011 - 11:18 pm

HOW COOL IS THAT! You are one brave mamma letting your loves go up in that helicopter!!! I bet Olivia loved it :)

50 Years | Franklin, NC Photographer

Since most of the recent shoots have been for Christmas cards, I haven’t been posting sneak peeks, but I wanted to get a few of my favorites up on the blog now as I get some time to do so.  This wonderful couple just celebrated 50 Christmas’ together!  My, my, my, I hope I can say that someday!  Since it was sooo cold the weeks leading up to Christmas, we opted to do the majority of this shoot indoors, and the Smoky Mountain Center for the Performing Arts graciously allowed us to use their beautiful light-drenched foyer.

We completed the day with a few shots at The Greenway.  Some runners passed and asked, “how many years?!” and Ginny replied without skipping a beat, “NINETY-FIVE!” :)

Ginny’s wit + Les’ charm = priceless.

Now, if you haven’t heard of the Smoky Mountain Center for the Performing Arts, or simply “the theater”, as it’s casually called around town, you’ve gotta check it out.  With its gorgeous, brand-new facility and an absolutely stunning line-up for 2011, there really is something for everyone.  Names like Michael W. Smith & Amy Grant, Kenny Rogers, Blood Sweat and Tears & Chuck Negron, The All American Boys Chorus, NEEDTOBREATHE, and more…in Franklin, North Carolina?!  What?!? Seriously, check it out.

And again, congrats, Les & Ginny!

Lois VanderWoude - January 18, 2011 - 11:09 pm

These are priceless! What a beautiful couple!

Sarah - January 19, 2011 - 2:35 pm

these are amazing photos! Les & Ginny are so great. SO thankful you introduced us :)

oh and great plug for the theater! thanks :) :)

Lois VanderWoude - January 19, 2011 - 6:27 pm

Oh yes. Congratulations Les and Ginny for 50 years! What a blessing! May God continue to bless your lives together!

Week 2 we were snowbound!  8″ of snow & ice is enough to immobilize our small, southern mountain town, but thankfully we didn’t lose any power.  We got outside a few times to go sledding and build a snowman, but mostly we spent our time indoors.  Olivia has recently discovered hot chocolate…not surprising if you know how much she loves brownies & Nesquik.

Well, here’s Reese “reading” her favorite book, Dogs, one afternoon in her bedroom.  ::sigh::  She’s looking all grown up.

For memories sake, I just have to say that this outfit didn’t last long…she kept popping the buttons open every time she’d crouch down to grab something…haha! Olivia wore this until she was nearly two; go figure!:)

Oh, and I have to just quickly mention that this adorable little headband comes from DeBloom Designs.  I love this girl’s stuff.  Super cute, great quality, and not expensive!

Also, be sure to check out the latest Project 52 post over at the styleberry BLOG, my primary inspiration for starting this project in the first place.  Her first post can be found here, absolutely beautifully written.

Alright, ya’ll, have a great weekend!

Kristin Murphy - January 14, 2011 - 10:42 am

I love how you are doing this Jodi! What lucky little girls to grow up and have these amazing photos of them as babies! I think this is a wonderful idea and I am inspired to attempt as well since so much will change this year for me, it would be nice to have a photo journal of it at the end :)

What size are you making your photos? Are you going to do them all the same?

Jodi - January 14, 2011 - 12:40 pm

You definitely should, Kristin! I only wished I would have started something like this sooner. And what an exciting year you have ahead of you! Hope you’re enjoying all the wedding planning!

For any editing that I do, I leave all of my photos their original size. That way, whatever I decide to do to them later, I can save at whatever output size is best for the application. For example, for the blog, I scale the images down to 600px wide at 72dpi, which is great for loading the site, but not what I’ll use to make the actual book later (so I never save over the original). Hope this helps!

Lois VanderWoude - January 14, 2011 - 2:07 pm

Yes, she does look grown up here! What a sweetie she is!

Sarah - January 14, 2011 - 10:23 pm

beautiful! and yes, she is looking very grown up!

Zenia - January 15, 2011 - 10:09 am

What a cutie pie Olivia is – love her headband too. :)

Kristin Murphy - January 18, 2011 - 10:18 am

I went to shutterfly, which is where I will get mine printed since a friend for Xmas gave me a gift card for that site, & found out what i liked & what size I would need. However, I was making my originals that size which I will not do from now on, whoops!

Thanks for the tips!!

Recipe Swap 2011 | Introduction

The idea of some sort of organized recipe swap party has been on my mind for a while now, but with my plate already full, it took a New Years resolution for me to get the ball rolling and finally work out all the details.  So, here we go.  Introducing…

WHAT | A taste-testing themed food party held once a month where everyone brings their best recipe that pertains to that theme

WHY | To create an arsenal of go-to recipes for our families, based on personal taste…you know, kind of like going to Costco or Sam’s Saturday morning and trying before you buy, you get to taste it before you make it.

WHO | Anyone who wants to come!

WHERE | Our house, Franklin, North Carolina

WHEN | Keep an eye on the blog for upcoming dates.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS | I will take pictures of each dish that is brought and post the photos/recipes here for easy reference.  Also, be sure to take along some containers to take home leftovers for the rest of the family to try!

DON’T LIVE CLOSE ENOUGH? Catch the recipes & photos here after the party, or host your own party and be sure to let us know how it goes!

Let me know if you have any questions in the comments below.

Sarah - January 12, 2011 - 8:21 pm

I am 90% sure I can come! Will fill out the form when I know for sure :)

Jodi - January 13, 2011 - 9:23 am

I’m hoping for the ninety & not the ten! :)

Lois VanderWoude - January 14, 2011 - 2:23 pm

Am looking forward to this Jodi! It is so nice to be able to taste something before you actually make it the first time to see if you like it.

Leland - January 14, 2011 - 9:02 pm

Do I get to try any of this good stuff or am I banned?

Sarah - January 16, 2011 - 1:48 pm

ok, I am 100% in :)

I filled out the form… just let me know if someone is doing something similar & I can make something different! And just to be clear… we make the recipe and bring it, so everyone can taste it?

Jodi - January 16, 2011 - 2:13 pm

Exactly! Sounds good, Sarah…can’t wait to see you Thursday!

Cara - January 17, 2011 - 2:50 pm
