With the theme of “Something I Make Every Week”, we had a fabulous first Recipe Swap! I know personally I will be keeping ALL of these recipes; everything was SO GOOD (and I’m not just saying that), and most of them are super simple to make, which I definitely like! Thanks to all who came! It was great to see good friends & awesome to meet new ones too! In case you missed it, here are the recipes from the evening, and I hope to see you all at the next one, March 1st at 6pm. The theme is “Appetizers & Desserts” so you can start thinking about it. I’ll post another facebook event & submission form once we get a little bit closer. Enjoy!

Thanks to all the ladies who have attended our recipe swaps, here are some other delicious recipes to try:
So, I cheated this week. I wanted to tell more of a story than one image would allow. Forgive me?
This week, I had a birthday! Woot, woot! I just love when the actual day falls on the weekend. My wish was to be able to spend the day with my hubby, and thanks to my wonderful mother taking care of the kids, I got exactly what I wanted. Grandpa flew over in the afternoon and took Olivia on her very first helicopter ride, “just like Umizoomi, Mommy!” I tried to capture some of her amazement with the whole thing. She even got to wear her own helmet and talk on the radio. Pret-ty cool, Grand-pa…maybe even cool enough that I’ll forgive you for standing up my birthday dinner.

Since most of the recent shoots have been for Christmas cards, I haven’t been posting sneak peeks, but I wanted to get a few of my favorites up on the blog now as I get some time to do so. This wonderful couple just celebrated 50 Christmas’ together! My, my, my, I hope I can say that someday! Since it was sooo cold the weeks leading up to Christmas, we opted to do the majority of this shoot indoors, and the Smoky Mountain Center for the Performing Arts graciously allowed us to use their beautiful light-drenched foyer.
We completed the day with a few shots at The Greenway. Some runners passed and asked, “how many years?!” and Ginny replied without skipping a beat, “NINETY-FIVE!”
Ginny’s wit + Les’ charm = priceless.
Now, if you haven’t heard of the Smoky Mountain Center for the Performing Arts, or simply “the theater”, as it’s casually called around town, you’ve gotta check it out. With its gorgeous, brand-new facility and an absolutely stunning line-up for 2011, there really is something for everyone. Names like Michael W. Smith & Amy Grant, Kenny Rogers, Blood Sweat and Tears & Chuck Negron, The All American Boys Chorus, NEEDTOBREATHE, and more…in Franklin, North Carolina?! What?!? Seriously, check it out.
And again, congrats, Les & Ginny!
What-to-wear inspiration, while it’s still cold outside…
All items pictured are available from Gap, Old Navy, or Piperlime.
Week 2 we were snowbound! 8″ of snow & ice is enough to immobilize our small, southern mountain town, but thankfully we didn’t lose any power. We got outside a few times to go sledding and build a snowman, but mostly we spent our time indoors. Olivia has recently discovered hot chocolate…not surprising if you know how much she loves brownies & Nesquik.
Well, here’s Reese “reading” her favorite book, Dogs, one afternoon in her bedroom. ::sigh:: She’s looking all grown up.
For memories sake, I just have to say that this outfit didn’t last long…she kept popping the buttons open every time she’d crouch down to grab something…haha! Olivia wore this until she was nearly two; go figure!
Oh, and I have to just quickly mention that this adorable little headband comes from DeBloom Designs. I love this girl’s stuff. Super cute, great quality, and not expensive!
Also, be sure to check out the latest Project 52 post over at the styleberry BLOG, my primary inspiration for starting this project in the first place. Her first post can be found here, absolutely beautifully written.
Alright, ya’ll, have a great weekend!
The idea of some sort of organized recipe swap party has been on my mind for a while now, but with my plate already full, it took a New Years resolution for me to get the ball rolling and finally work out all the details. So, here we go. Introducing…
WHAT | A taste-testing themed food party held once a month where everyone brings their best recipe that pertains to that theme
WHY | To create an arsenal of go-to recipes for our families, based on personal taste…you know, kind of like going to Costco or Sam’s Saturday morning and trying before you buy, you get to taste it before you make it.
WHO | Anyone who wants to come!
WHERE | Our house, Franklin, North Carolina
WHEN | Keep an eye on the blog for upcoming dates.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS | I will take pictures of each dish that is brought and post the photos/recipes here for easy reference. Also, be sure to take along some containers to take home leftovers for the rest of the family to try!
DON’T LIVE CLOSE ENOUGH? Catch the recipes & photos here after the party, or host your own party and be sure to let us know how it goes!
Let me know if you have any questions in the comments below.
